Meols Hall wedding photography to share today! Remember the last day of rain before our incredible summer kicked in? THIS WAS IT.
“THANK YOU SO MUCH – WE’VE GONE THROUGH THE PHOTOGRAPHS AND WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!”
Jen and Chris got married in May at the rustic Meols Hall, which is an old barn in Southport, Merseyside. They had their ceremony at St Chads, a grand old church in Kirkby. It was such a fun wedding and even the rain didn’t dampen the day!
The excitement before the wedding
Jen got ready at her parent’s house with her Mum, Dad, flower girls and bridesmaids, and the atmosphere was full of excitement. I loved the closeness of the family, everyone was so eager to celebrate with Jen. Look at the photo of Jen yelling as a bridesmaid re-pierces her ear. Ouch! Jen’s Dad was blown away when he saw her in the dress. It was a lovely moment.
The bride then jumped into a fancy wedding car to get to the ceremony. It took a few trips to shuttle everyone to the church and the rain really started to come down, but we were in the best of spirits! Chris got ready at home with his groomsmen. The boys traveled to the church and immediately sought shelter from the rain. I caught up with them just before the ceremony. Jen told me Chris wasn’t one to get nervous but I saw a couple of little flickers!
The church ceremony
The ceremony was a traditional affair at a stunning church not far from where Jen got ready. The dark interior of St Chads can be quite challenging for photography, but my equipment was up to the task. During the ceremony they had several beautiful readings from friends and family. It was such a personal service and so beautiful. It was lovely to work alongside Jo Gendle Films. Jo, like myself, prefers to work as unobtrusively as possible, and we happily squeezed together in the choir pews to quietly survey the ceremony.
The reception at Meols Hall
The reception was in the barn at Meols Hall. They chose the venue because it’s so cosy and relaxed, and they just fell in love with it. It was a rustic wedding, which meant lots of lovely details to work with. I love shooting Meols Hall weddings because they’ve always got such a great atmosphere. Meols Hall was actually the venue where I decided I wanted to be a wedding photographer, many years ago when I attended a family wedding there!
They had a cocktail drinks reception in the afternoon, and a photobooth in the evening. They even had an ice cream station (it WAS summer after all, despite the weather)! They decorated the venue with flowers and fairy lights, which worked so well inside the old barn. I love the dramatic portrait I got of our bride and groom inside Meols Hall; the light was killer.
The funniest part of the day was when we attempted a full-blown sparkler exit after the first dance because everyone was so drunk and watching everyone trying to light their sparklers was ridiculous. Fire and alcohol don’t mix, kids! 🙂
I had an awesome time with Jen & Chris on their big day. If you’re planning a Meols Hall wedding, get in touch!
Thank you for looking 🙂
