Llanerch Vineyard wedding photography on the blog today with the awesome Sophie & John!
When you hear “a wedding in a vineyard” you’d assume it was passport & French phrasebook time for Andrew Keher Photography; well, you’d be wrong. This amazing wine-making wedding venue is nestled in the glorious countryside of the UK’s very own South Wales! I love shooting weddings in Wales, it’s like a little holiday destination every time one crosses the border. I’ve photographed weddings throughout Wales but Llanerch Vineyard is about the furthest south I’ve been so far. The epic coastline, sheltered valleys and inspiring mountains make for an epic and diverse landscape.

A Unique Wedding Venue in South Wales
Sophie & John chose to be married at Llanerch Vineyard. The venue caters for the entire wedding day, from bridal preparations to ceremony, cocktail hour and right through to the evening reception.
The bridal makeup was by Angharad Gibbs, with Katie Lazard doing hair. It was a lovely bridal suite to photograph in, with rich red tones from the bed against the cool window light. Although it sounds strange, my favourite light to work in is when there almost isn’t enough light; just a splash giving shape to the dark. The Cariad Suite at Llanerch Vineyard is highly recommended 🙂
Sophie wore an elegant Justin Alexander dress; check out the detail on the back! She looked almost ethereal.
Drinks Reception In The Secret Garden
The wedding ceremony was held in the Calon Lodge which has its own secret garden amongst real grape vines. Such a chilled atmosphere among the guests; sunglasses on, glass of wine in hand, chatting between the grapes! An extremely cool chap from “The Beard Band” played guitar to complete the laid-back vibe.
John’s little nephew Jack was the ringbearer, and kept everyone laughing all day. He even had a few cheeky words to say during the speeches! Jack’s sister Ellen was a flower girl along with Daisy, and were both the source of many lovely little moments. The photo of Sophie’s mum blowing bubbles for a flower girl (I’m not sure if it’s Daisy or Ellen) is one of my absolute favourites from the day. It’s just a sweet little unposed moment that happened to have gorgeous light, and I took full advantage!
A Cool Welsh Wedding Venue
Llanerch Vineyard is such a cool & unique wedding venue. From a photographic perspective, it was a joy to work in. We even got lucky with the sunset, although we did have to go slightly off-road and venture into the woods behind the vineyard to truly appreciate the spectacular light. Once again, I’m happy to report that the full-frame Sony A9 camera handles that contrasty backlight with ease.
Sophie & John… it was simply amazing. You and your family are lovely and so much fun to photograph. Thank you for choosing me, for trusting me, and for being such good sports on the day. I hope you enjoy this small selection of photographs and maybe we can catch up soon 🙂
